When I was at high school I took typing as a subject so I learned how to touch type (using all my fingers on the correct keys on the qwerty keyboard) and we used to have speed tests once a week where we tried to improve on our very best speed from the week before and beat the other kids in the class.
From memory my highest speed ever was 80 words a minute - I was a more accurate typist than I was a speed typist. Some people could type almost 100 words per minute - wpm - and that was really fast.
The more you practice the better you become and if you learn to use all your fingers that will help you go faster as well.
You will get better, you just have to keep trying.
